Using a Custom Domain Name
Ready to get started?
Hi. In this video, I'm just going to show you how to map your website domain.
When you've made your recruitment website and you've made all the changes that you want to make and you want to publish it to your domain name, you need to map the domain name.
As you can see here, our temporary URL is myagency.recsites.co.uk. That's what we created when we signed up to Recsites.
Now, what we need to do to map the domain is go to the dashboard and here it says account statistics. We click see account summary in this section here, custom domain.
You want to add your domain name here. Now, before you do that, you need to point your domain name to the server IP, which is here. To do that, you need to add that IP address to an A record on your DNS settings.
What does that mean? Wherever you registered your domain name, that's called a domain name registrar, that usually is where the DNS is hosted. Sometimes not always, sometimes it can be with the DNS manager like Cloudflare or something, but the principle is the same. For example, if I go to 123Reg and I've got a domain name here called recats.co.uk and it might look different on say, GoDaddy or somewhere else, but in principle, you'd go to the domain and there'd be a thing where it says Manage DNS settings or DNS settings.
You click into that, you click Advanced DNS. This is where it says type, you've got A records here.
You've got this A record here and this A record here. They're both similar. This is like a wildcard one and this is like for the domain itself, recats.co.uk
But in any case, these two A records have this IP address. That's what you need to change. Currently, this domain, recats.co.uk is already pointing to this IP address. That's already pointing to that, so I changed that earlier.
Now, when you do and to change that... If your IP address is not that obvious what you would do is you'd edit it and just go to here, just copy that into your clipboard, and then just paste that into there like that and update, and do the same for that one. Then that's all you need to do. Now, it can take anywhere between a few minutes to a day, maybe sometimes for those DNS changes to propagate.
When you add your domain name here, it might not work straight away. It can take anywhere between a few minutes to a few hours to a day to update.
Do this and then when you do change this and then put the domain name in here, it might not work straight away, but it will work at some point.
Let's try that. I've already added, as you can see, already added that IP address into the A record here for this domain. And we're going to add in the domain here.
So just put in the recats.co.uk and then click Set Custom domain. Click OK. It only takes a few seconds to update. Now, remember, myagency.recsites.co.uk is what the temporary domain was.
Now, if I go to visit the website, it now says recats.co.uk. And now the website is live on your domain name, which is pretty awesome.
It's that simple, really super easy to map your website to your domain name.
